bread & butter

poster + album cover

overview

This was a project that came out of a poster class taught by Shogo Ota at Seattle Central Creative Academy. We had two weeks to design a poster and album cover for a local band that would be given to us by Shogo.

I was given the band Bread & Butter and ended up enjoying their music very much. They have a ton of energy and already have some great visuals and a strong identity in place, making it a pleasure to design around.

After seeing the artwork for their current album, watching videos as well as listening to their song Psycho World on repeat about a thousand times, I decided on a Black Cat Fireworks theme using the chorus to that song as inspiration for the imagery. I also pulled directly from the image of the cat on their album cover, using only its arm and collar as a visual reference, creating a mystic around what could essentially be a mascot for this band. Similar to Iron Maiden’s Eddie character.

These three options all had a good chance of being developed further but ultimately the Black Cat route in the center was too fun to pass up.
